The view from 1919

01 Jun 2019 - Tamworth Regional Gallery

Presented by Capitol Theatre in Association with Tamworth Regional Gallery

Let’s go back 100 years…

Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Tamworth Regional Gallery, The View from 1919, is a theatrical exploration of the people, the art and the social environment of the time.

Gallery founder John (Jack) Salvana will come back to life and take us on a theatrical journey that looks at how Tamworth’s visual art’s collection was established and evolved.

“I have a dream… to provide a rural centre with an art gallery, so that young children and those with an interest in art might be encouraged to study it and learn from viewing original artworks at first hand.”  - John Salvana

This ‘made in Tamworth’ production will feature the music, clothes and the characters of the early 1900’s and celebrate our rich history. The performance will coincide with the Tamworth Regional Gallery's exhibition of the same name, The View From 1919 which runs from 1 June to 28 July 2019. The exhibition is free to enter.

The layering of Salvana's self portrait over his landscape is to show the man inside his work. Landscape works were Salvana's passion. Painting them in nature with the landscape around him was what the man was all about. His studio was the landscape he was capturing at the time.
